Separation Day
Separation Day is the annual celebration of Delaware’s independence from Pennsylvania and the British Crown. 2023 marks the 247th anniversary of arguably one of the longest running traditions in the state. The community event is held annually in Historic New Castle. Friday night festivities includes music, food and drink in the center of town. Saturday kicks off with a Colonial-inspired parade. The middle of the day is filled with children’s rides, a vintage market, live music, beer garden and foods prepared by community groups. The day culminates with fireworks over the Delaware River.

Open Cockpit Day
Open Cockpit Day provides the public full access to many of the museum’s aircraft from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. If weather permits and tour guides are available. Tour guides are stationed in the open aircraft to describe the history of the planes and their missions. They are often retired crew members of these airplanes so their descriptions are from personal experience and bring the aircraft to life for visitors.

Rockwood’s Paranormal Experience
This is Rockwood’s classic Paranormal Program to investigate the mansion from the unfinished attic to the decayed basement through the highly polished living spaces in between. Guests will be instructed how to use sophisticated paranormal equipment to be central to the investigation. Visiting investigators will learn how instrument results relate to those who may have once lived or worked at Rockwood. Attendees must be able to traverse many stairs throughout the museum. Ages 14+.

Running of the Bull
A quarter of a century ago, Michael McDonnell was in his mid-twenties and feeling revelrous when he and a beach house full of his cohorts decided to enact their own wacky version of Pamplona’s Running of the Bulls in an unassuming bar in Dewey Beach. None of them could have anticipated that inaugural run down the beach with the bull in a costume in June, 25 years ago, would ultimately become Dewey Beach’s own “drunk uncle” version of Pamplona’s long held tradition.

"Positively Dover" Festival
The "Positively Dover" Festival is an African American festival; Since the founding of the Festival in 1991, it has become a signature event for the City of Dover and the State of Delaware. It is held annually on the fourth Saturday in June, on the Legislative Mall. The Festival offers the opportunity for visitors to explore the African and African American culture through vendor exhibits, and high level artistic entertainment in an atmosphere reflecting modern day African Outdoors Marketplaces.
